SUP LESSONS

LEARNING TO PADDLE

SUP (stand-up paddle) is an easy sport to learn. Jen is a qualified paddleboard instructor, and will teach you the basic skills that you need to know, including how to mount and dismount your board safely, how to hold your paddle, how to paddle correctly, and how to turn your board. She will have you paddling around our beaches in no time!

All the equipment you need will be included in the price of your lesson, and wetsuit hire can be added on at an additional cost.

Our beginner boards are very large - 11ft - and very stable. They are inflatable, and made from a very lightweight but durable plastic. They will be fully inflated, carefully checked, and ready to go for your lesson.

Once you have mastered the basics, there really is no better feeling than paddling around our stunning coastline!

Lesson times and locations

The time and location of your lesson will be dependent on the weather and the tide. While Machrins is the perfect place to learn, if the tide is very far out then we may be high and dry! Jen will work with you to arrange a time and place which will work with the tides. Please note that lessons may need to be rescheduled or cancelled at the last minute if the weather takes an unexpected turn. If the wind is over 12 knots we are unable to take you out, but can reshedule for another day.

  • Machrins

Crystal clear waters and a large, expansive area to paddle round. You might even spot the odd inquisitive seal!

  • The Strand

Gorgeous to paddle as the sun goes down - a pinky glow is cast over the water and the surrounding hills. Only suitable at high tide.

  • Kiloran Bay

Only for completely still days. Incredible views over to Mull, the Treshnish Isles and, on a really clear day, Tiree. Don't forget to turn round and admire the impressive view of Carnan Eoin too - Colonsay's largest hill.
